HL7 FHIR® Implementation Guide: Situational Awareness Framework for Reporting (US SAFR), Edition 1 - US Realm

DESCRIPTION

The U.S. Situational Awareness Framework for Reporting (US SAFR) Implementation Guide (IG) establishes a standardized, FHIR-based approach to support public health decision-making during emergencies. It does this by enabling interoperable data exchange between healthcare facilities, jurisdictions, and CDC. The guide supports automated, near real-time reporting of healthcare system capacity to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN). By standardizing FHIR interfaces and reducing manual reporting burden, the US SAFR IG improves national, jurisdictional, and local situational awareness, strengthens emergency preparedness and response capabilities, and supports timely, reliable insights into healthcare system capacity.
