HL7 FHIR® Implementation Guide: Radiation Dose Summary for Diagnostic Procedures on FHIR, Edition 1

DESCRIPTION

The aim of this IG is to standardize sharing of minimal radiation information following a performed exam. This minimal radiation information is needed by multiple stakeholders like RIS, EHR, and national/regional stakeholders. Minimal radiation information reporting is asked by many regulations/recommendations, to be included for instance in the patient imaging report. Thus, this IG allows to standardize and enhance data sharing from dose management systems to third parties.

See the specification at http://hl7.org/fhir/uv/radiation-dose-summary/STU1

ALTERNATIVE NAMES

HL7 FHIR® Implementation Guide: Radiation Dose Summary for Diagnostic Procedures on FHIR, Edition 1 may also go by the following names or acronyms:

"HL7 FHIR® IG: Radiation Dose Summary, R1",Radiation Dose Summary for Diagnostic Procedures on FHIR (FHIR), FHIR Radiation Dose Summary,radiation-dose-summary

BENEFITS

  • Simplifies sharing the radiation summary information between applications.

IMPLEMENTATIONS/CASE STUDIES

  • GE Healthcare

DEVELOPMENT BACKGROUND

The IHE Dose Reporter actor within the IHE (Radiation Exposure Monitoring) REM profile gathers radiation information and dose reports from modalities. However, there is no standard to expose a dose summary to third parties in a light API based format.

This IG also supports the summary of Radiopharmaceutical dose (not depicted above), in which Radiopharmaceutical Activity Information is provided to the Dose Info Reporter by the Radiopharmaceutical Activity Supplier. See IHE REM for Nuclear Medicine (REM-NM) for more information.
