HL7 FHIR® Implementation Guide: Data Exchange Profiles for 2022 CDC Clinical Practice Guideline for Prescribing Opioids, Edition 1 - US Realm

DESCRIPTION

This specification defines exchange expectations for systems that implement the 2022 CDC Clinical Practice Guideline for Prescribing Opioids for Pain, both in terms of the data required to evaluate whether recommendations are applicable, as well as the data required to represent proposals resulting from those recommendations.

ALTERNATIVE NAMES

HL7 FHIR® Implementation Guide: Data Exchange Profiles for 2022 CDC Clinical Practice Guideline for Prescribing Opioids, Edition 1 - US Realm may also go by the following names or acronyms:

"HL7 FHIR® IG: CDC CPG for Prescribing Opioids, E1",Opioid CPG,Opioid CDS,cdc-opioid-cpg

BENEFITS

  • Provides implementers with a set of FHIR profiles that characterize the data used to make recommendations in the 2022 CDC Opioid Prescribing Guideline

IMPLEMENTATIONS/CASE STUDIES

  • The open source HAPI FHIR server is capable of running the content in this implementation guide, and is being used for production deployments at Yale and MUSC.

DEVELOPMENT BACKGROUND

These profiles were developed as a companion implementation guide to the computable guideline content published as a FHIR Community Process IG. Implementer feedback during implementation of that project indicated that a balloted HL7 implementation guide with profiles for the data exchanged with the service computing the recommendations would facilitate implementation at sites.
