Description

The 2022 CDC Clinical Practice Guideline for Prescribing Opioids provides FHIR and CQL-based computable representation of the guideline recommendations, suitable for producing actionable recommendations as part of clinical workflows involving prescription of opioids.

Publication of that implementation guide is currently being pursued using the FHIR Community Process. As an implementation companion, this project will develop an implementation guide that establishes profiles and conformance expectations for systems to exchange the data involved in computing these recommendations.

Project Need

The CDC and ASTP/ONC have developed a FHIR implementation guide that provides computable representation of the CDC's 2022 Clinical Practice Guideline for Prescribing Opioids. This project will develop a FHIR Implementation Guide that defines the profiles and conformance expectations for systems to exchange the data required to provide decision support recommendations based on the guideline.
