BPM Foundational Artifacts

This is an umbrella project, stewarding the development and ballot of foundational and reference artifacts supporting the advancement of the use of industry standard visual notations, formalisms, and techniques to express workflow, care pathways, clinical protocols and supportive of goals such as process optimization, automation, and improvement. Specific ballotable artifacts will serve as documentation of industry best practices, style guidance, implementation guidance (informative), and other references to promulgate BPM-oriented solution uptake and utilization within the market. Note that the focus of this project is on the applied use of open standards (e.g., Business Process Model and Notation, Case Management Model and Notation, Decision Model and Notation, and so on). It does not include updates to those standards as they are under the purview of another SDO.

The initial artifact will be a ballot within HL7 of the 2025 revision of the Field Guide to Sharable Clinical Pathways v2, which completed authoring prior to the transition of the BPM community into HL7. We envision subsequent foundational artifacts being identified and balloted in coming cycles.
