Details

Split this text across other fields and/or update as appropriate based on comments received during project proposal process. The Standardizing Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) project will develop a standardized approach for exchanging CGM data between patients, healthcare providers, and digital health platforms. By leveraging HL7 FHIR resources and profiles, this project will enable sharing of CGM summary reports, glucose observations, and device information to support collaborative diabetes management.

The project will define a standardized workflow for data submitters (such as patient apps and diabetes management platforms) to securely transmit CGM data to data receivers (like EHR systems). This will include guidance on app authorization using SMART on FHIR, establishing patient context, learning submission preferences, and preparing FHIR Bundles containing CGM data.

The project may also explore the use of SMART Health Links (SHLinks) to facilitate data sharing in scenarios where tight integration is not feasible or desired.

The project will collaborate with key stakeholders being convened in the Argonaut accelerator's 2024 project on CGM, including healthcare providers, EHR vendors, and digital health companies, to ensure that the standardized approach meets real-world needs and is widely adopted across the healthcare ecosystem. As part of this effort, the project is expected to produce an HL7 FHIR Implementation Guide that will serve as a valuable resource for implementers and accelerate the adoption of standardized CGM data sharing practices..
