Details

Diagnostic reports in imaging have specific context and content requirements that are associated with them.  Focused effort is needed to capture the results of the imaging interpretation process, support efficient communication of those results, and feed subsequent analysis and clinical workflows.  Current work to inform the structure of an Imaging Diagnostic Report is ongoing in IHE, Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise, and OIDM, Open Imaging Data Model, projects, along with guidance on fulfillment of USCDI v2 requirements for Imaging Diagnostic Report [https://www.healthit.gov/isa/uscdi-data-class/diagnostic-imaging#uscdi-v2].

The scope of the project would be to map content of an Imaging Diagnostic Report to the FHIR Diagnostic Report Resource and show how this can be organized for consumption using composition.

As the diagnostic report in imaging have specific content that has actionable items within it, ensuring that imaging use cases are brought to the appropriate work groups on behalf of the imaging community to ensure that the content can be accurately represented and acted upon which will ultimately improve patient outcomes.  Imaging use cases are under represented across resources and as the formal output of imaging procedures, the diagnostic report is the mechanism for communication across the enterprise which provides observations and recommendations by the imaging clinical specialties.
